An Oxide Film MELF Resistor is a type of cylindrical, leadless resistor combining the oxide film resistive element with the MELF (Metal Electrode Leadless Face) package design. It is widely used in compact, high-reliability electronic circuits due to its small size, stable performance, and excellent environmental adaptability.

Basic Principle

The resistor's resistive layer is formed by thermally oxidizing a metal alloy substrate (typically nickel-chromium alloy) to generate a dense, uniform metal oxide film on its surface. The resistance value is adjusted by precisely controlling the thickness of the oxide film and trimming the film's length via laser cutting. The MELF package features metal electrodes directly attached to both ends of the cylindrical ceramic or metal substrate, eliminating the need for traditional axial leads and reducing the component's footprint.
